The Best Typing Program for Homeschool

Are you looking for a typing program for homeschool? I have a great solution for you: Typesy! Typing is such an important skill for everyone to have. In our ever-online world, sometimes it’s easy to overlook typing skills. We assume that kids will learn to type properly by osmosis, but that’s not the case. Typing is a skill the does need some committed and concentrated time and attention. Enter Typesy, the best typing program for homeschool that I’ve used.

I was thrilled when Typesy asked me to check out their program and I think you’re going to love it too and I can’t wait to tell you all about it! It is so much more than a typing program and it’s not just for little kids. This is a tool that even parents can benefit greatly from.

What is Typesy?

Typesy is an online typing program that teaches proper keyboarding technique through engaging video instruction, interactive exercises, and games. It combines the science of muscle memory with practical application, so kids (and adults!) learn to type accurately and efficiently.

The platform is super clean and user-friendly, and it’s packed with helpful progress tracking tools that allow both students and parents to monitor growth.

How We’re Using Typesy

Right now, both of my girls are using Typesy—but for totally different reasons, which is a testament to how versatile the program is.

My middle school daughter is using it to really learn proper typing technique. We’ve been spotty in the past about sticking to a program–because none where as sleek and easy as Typesy, so I feel like she needs some consistent practice. Extra bonus: she actually looks forward to her typing practice—something I didn’t expect!

On the other hand, my high school daughter can type well, but she wanted to brush up on her accuracy and speed before tackling more writing-heavy high school assignments. She appreciates that she can skip ahead to the more advanced lessons and get a real challenge without wasting time.

For both girls, I love that there is so much more inside Typesy than speed and accuracy testing. As they work through lessons, they can learn Microsoft Office skills, Google skills like Gmail and Drive, time management skills, and even learn great vocabulary skills!

As a practical matter, we are easily fitting this into our homeschool day by having each girl on her own laptop do just 15 minutes each morning to close out our Morning Meeting. Then we’ll move into math and English. Very easy to fit into our day.

As a homeschool mom, I appreciate that both girls can work at their own level within the same program—and I can check in on their progress with just a few clicks.

What This Homeschool Mom Loves About Typesy

Typing can often feel dry or boring—but Typesy manages to make it fun and educational at the same time. Here are a few reasons why it stands out:

  • Video-based learning: Kids are guided through lessons with short instructional videos that explain why each skill matters. After teaching 99% of the subjects, sometimes it’s just really nice to have a pro explain something to your child! I love the simple, concise instruction.
  • Gamified learning: I’m NOT a big game mom, BUT when it helps learn tricky skills, I’m in favor! Built-in games keep learners engaged while reinforcing proper finger placement and accuracy.
  • Family-friendly: With one account, you can add multiple users—perfect for households with several kids at different levels. Super helpful for homeschoolers!
  • Easy progress tracking: Parents can easily see how their children are improving over time.
  • Self-paced: Kids can go as quickly or as slowly as needed without pressure–one of the biggest benefits of homeschooling!
  • Great for all ages: Whether your child is just learning or your teen needs to boost their speed for high school essays, Typesy works for a range of learners.
  • Cloud-based: Access it from anywhere, on multiple devices.
