Last Day of School: Summer Basket
Last Friday was the last day of school. *Woohooooo!* We’ve worked really hard this year and Vera has made school, how should I say it…interesting? So a good, long break is just what we needed. We’re ready to embrace summer’s looser learning, reading together all morning, and going on more adventures. We spent our last day with a morning field trip to the donut shop and an afternoon of cleaning out desks, organizing papers, and cleaning the school room. It felt so good. But before that, we started our last day of school like we have the last two years, with a great big summer basket.
When you start something with your kids, they don’t forget it. They come to expect things if you do them once. Our summer basket tradition is like that. They started asking a week before school was out if I was going to do it again. It looks like a big deal, but what they don’t realize is most of it is things I had to buy for summer anyway. I just happened to stick it all in a basket, or in this case a laundry basket because I needed one.

If you’re not done with school yet, hang in there! Summer’s on its way!! And if you’ve already kicked off summer, cheers to summer!!
Summer is primetime for school planning for next year. Don’t forget to check out my new Classroom Guides. Read all the details about them on Tuesday’s post.
Yep. Once again you helped me be the cool mom. My girls LOVED their summer basket- thank you for the fun idea!
That is totally inspiring Alicia!! I love it all. I keep thinking I need to do that. I also love the new blog look. it is SO perfect!!
I love your summer basket! Every year I get the kids gifts for finishing school, and welcoming Summer. I love your picture of the books, as every single one of those is on our list of summer reads! I haven't read any of them personally (minus Anne of green gables) so I am really looking forward to it. I always include books in my summer gift list for the kids. If I can find some cheaply, I plan on purchasing some of the classics. Currently we are reading doctor Doolittle, it's great and I recommend it if you haven't read it already! Have a great summer! We have 2 weeks left.
