Art Appreciation: A Look at an Autumn Themed Art Course from Yellow Spot Sun

Today I’m excited to share with you about Yellow Spot Sun, an art program that we have been loving lately! I’m always on the lookout for a new art appreciation course, especially as the seasons change. I don’t know about you, but the cooler weather and shorter days always draw me in with a need to create.

While we are back to a more structured day, settling into a school schedule and starting up activities that have been on a long summer break, there is still a strong pull to slow down and savor this beautiful season. We often choose to do this by baking, sitting down to family dinners with our favorite comfort foods, or re-reading a well worn classic.

However one of my favorite ways to foster creativity and appreciate this time of year is by incorporating art into our school days. This fall we have been using Yellow Spot Sun’s autumn themed art course and I’m so excited to tell you about it…

Yellow Spot Sun: What I’m Loving

There are so many things to love about Yellow Spot Sun, but here are a few I’m really thankful for right now:

  • This art course is geared towards children from elementary ages to high school! While I just have my girls this year, I am no stranger to teaching multiple ages at once, and having something they can all be involved in is so worthwhile, and so much fun. The videos easily guide everyone through their artwork, allowing them to work independently, while all being together, working on the same thing. Creating art together as a family is so special!
  • The pre-recorded videos, featuring Marrissa, the art teacher (LOVE her!), make it so easy to move at our own pace. If we need to spend more time on a certain technique, we can!
  • The autumn theme is so lovely and I just can’t wait go through the rest of the course to brighten up our home with some beautiful fall art. I’m especially love the pheasant tutorial! ๐Ÿ™‚

How We’ll Be Using Yellow Spot Sun This Fall

I really love the autumn art images that come in this course, and the art appreciation questions that go with them. Along with these are several drawing prompts as well. I plan to incorporate these into our morning meeting. Gazing at beautiful artwork, and getting our brains moving in a creative way sounds like a wonderful way to start our days!

The how-to-draw and paint tutorials could be done once a month or even over the course of several Fridays as a nice way to end the school week and enter into the weekend. No matter how we end up using this course, one thing is certain, we will do it together. I can’t think of a more charming way to savor all the goodness that autumn has to offer us.

Something Special About Yellow Spot Sun

Some of my favorite homeschool moms are the ones who were teachers at one time. I love the that creator or Yellow Spot Sun, Marrissa, was once an art teacher in many different school settings. She is now a homeschooling mom to three and has created these courses with her teacher training, knowledge of art, and her own children in mind. The best combination in my opinion!

Go check out Yellow Spot Sun–you will not be disappointed!
