I was given a set of Wikki Stix letter cards from Timberdoodle Co. in exchange for an honest review. If I’m ever looking for something a little different to add to our homeschool rotation, I call on Timberdoodle Co. first. And since I’m officially adding a new mini student to our homeschool mix this year, I was happy to snag this Wikki Stix Alphabet set and try it on for size.
Doing a whole lot of “school work” with 4-year-old’s is against my nature. There is so much time for worksheets and formal lessons. The only thing I even think about teaching at this age is letter recognition (and mayyyybe their sounds if they’re interested) and counting to ten. And if these things don’t happen 100%, I’m fine with that.
The preschool realm is chock full of amazing products and fun things to fill our closets and shelves with. But hoarding (even great) supplies is also against my nature. So I’m careful about what I bring into my home. And here’s why I really really like using Wikki Stix Alphabet for preschool.

What We Like About Wikki Stix Alphabet
- Like I said, I’m no hoarder. So before I say YES to purchasing or reviewing something, I ask myself this:
- Do I have space for this?
- Will this drive me nuts later? (Too big, too bulky, too noisy, not useful…you get it…NUTS!)
- Wikki Stix Alphabet cards are super durable. They are thick and hard for little hands to bend. These will look good for a long time.
- Wikki Stix are just a cool invention. Have you ever used these? They’re basically skinny sticks of pliable wax.
They aren’t sticky. They don’t break (but you can cut them…see below). You can make sculptures and drawings with them and you don’t need any glue or adhesives at all. They can be used again and again.Awesome, right??!
- We can pull these out anytime, anywhere. Because of all the advantages of Wikki Stix (as stated above), you can literally use these anywhere: in church, on car rides, waiting for dinner to arrive at a restaurant, and of course, during school time!
- We started working with V-E-R-A, as I’ve read this is a very good place to start with preschoolers. But you could use these cards to make up your own games or however fits your needs. I love stuff that adapts like that.
What We Didn’t Like So Much About Wikki Stix Alphabet
- Although these little waxy sticks are easy for me to manipulate, they’re not so easy for my 4 year old. She did get frustrated a few times when she tried without my help. With her age, it’s a full-on group activity. Not something I could send her to do on her own.Not the worst thing though. 🙂
- For a few of the letters, I had to cut the sticks, which hurt my soul somehow. I felt like I was mistreating school supplies, like peeling the labels of crayons (the nerve of some children!!). But some of the letters had very short lines and aside from doubling over the stick several times, I had to cut.Boo.I’m over it though.Mostly.
I’ve stored this sweet little box in Vera’s desk for the school year and plan on pulling it out every other week or so to practice letter recognition. If you’re looking for a little extra something with your preschooler this year, this is a fab option!
You can purchase Wikki Stix Alphabet cards from Timberdoodle Co individually OR check out the entire preschool curriculum set. Everything you need in one product. Easy peasy.
