Almost every week, a sweet reader asks me this: what do you do with Vera (4) when you do school. Well, preschoolers are magical little beings and especially for Vera, there’s not a lot I can do to keep her little hands busy. But then, once in a while, you find something that will entice them for hours–or maybe it was just 20 minutes, but it sure felt like an hour. Geo Shape Lacing pieces have been that magical thing for us. I hope this Geo Shape Lacing review will give your preschooler a boost too.
Geo Shape Lacing Review: What we Thought
What I’m always impressed with when I receive products from Timberdoodle Co. is the quality. When I opened our box of Geo Shape Lacing blocks, the first thing that struck me was…”wow! These are top quality.”

Unless your child is into pyrotechnics or extreme karate, there’s no destroying these things!
The kit comes with three different shapes, plenty of colorful laces, and creative idea books with instructions on different types of stitches your child can try.

For us, Vera didn’t want to learn anything new, she just wanted to take off and make her own creations.
The creativity guide was really nice for my older kids though and they tried some of the fun ideas to make shapes and patterns. I was shocked at how quiet my house became when I continued to pull these out.
The Geo Lacing Shapes are now living right by our fireside in a basket where they can be easily accessed. I have been loving grabbing one for my bag when we head out the door as well.
How we use Geo Shape Lacing
We’ve been using Geo Shape Lacing for a few months now and they are coming in much more handy than I even imagined! Here’s how we’re using them:
- While waiting at restaurants for our food to arrive.
- On car rides.
- While we are reading aloud.
- During TV shows.
- While I’m working with the big kids on homeschool.
- When we’re too burned out to play a game, but we need to keep hands busy.
- During quiet time.
- As a stress reliever for my highly sensitive child.
- While we are working on projects too old for my preschooler.
Geo Lacing Shapes have provided many many sessions of entertainment–much more entertainment than I initially expected. Vera loves her creations and they all have special meaning and design to her. I love the creativity and quietness these shapes provide and I love how my older kids have sat down so many times to play with them as well. Such a lovely surprise.
Have your kids tried these shapes? Or other “sewing” toys? Please let me know in the comments!
