EASY GRAMMAR IN HIGH SCHOOL

For our first year of high school, I knew I wanted to piece together a language arts credit instead of purchasing something from a big box. We needed some high school grammar, vocabulary, and writing. This year, we are basing our language arts credits almost entirely around what literature we’re reading. We’re learning about different literacy concepts and some grammar based on excerpts from our literature. But I needed to beef up grammar and vocabulary.

We have used Easy Grammar workbooks in our homeschool since the very beginning. I knew they were simple to use and very thorough, but would it be enough at the high school level? If you’re finding yourself in the same scenario, here’s what we are thinking about Easy Grammar at the high school level.

What does Easy Grammar look like for High School?

…just like every single other year of Easy Grammar and I could not love that more! Easy Grammar has been a staple in our homeschool since almost the beginning. I love that they keep offering it at the high school level and it’s just like grammar at the lower levels, the content has just been beefed up to make it more challenging.

Just like at the elementary level, there is one workbook page for each day. We aren’t following that schedule exactly (see below), but I love that it’s laid out like this. When my kids look at this page, it’s very doable. It’s not stressful or overwhelming. They can easily finish it in ten minutes. That might not seem like much. But ten minutes, repeatedly, on most days of the week, really adds up. We have found that the short and sweet lessons add up to so much more than an hour-long lesson with stress.

I will be honest, a lot of the material this year has been review for Noah. BUT I really really love that he’s getting this review every week. He needs it! I need it!

Here’s a peek at what a normal lesson looks like.

How We’re Using Easy Grammar

Each day for high school language arts is proving to be a little different. Sometimes the writing assignments are longer than others, so that’s all I’ll have him do. Other days, the writing assignment is really short. On those days, I will assign Noah one or two grammar lessons and one lesson from his vocabulary book. It only takes a few minutes, but the return on the time investment is huge.

Easy Grammar (9th Grade) is part of Timberdoodle’s complete 9th grade curriculum kit. Along with a few other great resources, Easy Grammar rounds out your 9th grader’s language arts for the year. Have I told you how much I thrive on simple?? It’s how we fuel this homeschool train we’re on.

Easy Grammar has been a staple in our homeschool. I’m so pleased that we can continue to use it through high school. I would love to know what you are using for high school language arts!
