Homeschooling Day in the Life: Zayra, Homeschooling Mom to Three, Living in Wisconsin

Day in the Life Zayra

A homeschool day in the life looks different almost every day, right? Over on our Instagram page, we love to give you a peek into lots of homeschool days regardless of how they change day to day.

Today, we’re going to give you a peek into the homeschool day in the life of Zayra, homeschooling mom to three, living in Wisconsin.

We can all learn and be inspired by one another, regardless of our homeschool approach. It’s not about looking good for social media, it’s about the connection going on inside our homeschool walls and sharing with others what works for us.

We might all homeschool a little differently, but we can always look for ideas from each other that inspire, encourage and equip us in our own homeschool days. So each week we create blog posts for you to access later of each of those “days in the life”. We hope you keep coming back for more inspiration. Keep going, mama! These days at home are so worth it!

Meet Zayra

Zayra @willowtree_schoolhouse is a homeschool mama to three kiddos, ages ranging from 9, 6 and almost 3 year old. She began homeschooling post lockdown, and if it wasn’t for everything that occurred post March of 2020, she wouldn’t have discovered the beauty of home education.

Fast forward to almost 5 years later, and never in her wildest dreams did she ever consider the possibility that she would joyfully stay home with her kids and home educate them. Not only did she create a culture within her family that she is proud of but she also found her homeschool support system with a few amazing mothers that find joy in motherhood.

Now that she has a few years under her belt with formally home educating her children, she can confidently say that having your own timetable that is unique to your family is the key to a successful school year.

Homeschool Space

Homeschool Space Zayra

Hi everyone! My name is Zayra from @willowtree_schoolhouse and this is my first official post at @learningwell. I’m so excited for you all to join us in our DITL 🫶

First thing first, let’s talk about my homeschool space. Did you know this room also serves as our dining room? This room is literally the heart of our home. Not only do we sit here to share meals and participate in fruitful conversations, but also learn together.

Anyways, this is a friendly reminder that you don’t need a separate room in your home to solely dedicated to lessons.

Morning Time

Messy table equates to productive atmosphere.

This is the second day we’re officially back to our table doing morning time work and I honestly never thought this day would come. My toddler is a tornado and look at her just sitting there practicing her cutting skills with scraps of sheets of papers in silence.

For a while, we had to complete our morning time in our family room to give all the kids freedom to play quietly while I read to them and I have found that their narrations are always great whenever I give them the freedom to choose what to do to keep their hands busy.

With all of that being said, notice how my two big kids are either working on their handicraft or quietly playing with their toys? I let go the idea that they need to work on independent work while I read them stories scheduled for that day which helped foster a love for that morning togetherness everyday.

Signs of a Productive Day

Productive day

The outcome of a very productive day where lessons began at 8:30 am and didn’t finish till 3 pm. Obviously that included many breaks in between, a friend spontaneously stopping by, a crabby toddler that needed a nap, and a 9 year old boy who felt overwhelmed with mastering his craft at knitting, and so many more distractions. But, that IS life.

I try my best to normalize this kind of content whenever it presents itself because I don’t want anybody to ever get the wrong idea of me thinking that I have it all together when it’s the exact opposite.

Thankfully my two big kids were extremely cooperative with our timetable today. I did see the “light” at the end of the tunnel when I noticed my oldest grabbing his materials for copywork without being prompted, and I almost wanted to cry.

Anyways, I hope your day was filled with lots of learning and intentional opportunities for connection through out the day. Thankful and honored to have been able to participate in this social media takeover, and so grateful to be in a place where I can share all of the amazing moments my children share through out the day together.

Thank you so much to Zayra for sharing your family’s day with us!
