Homeschooling Day in the Life: Sasha, Homeschooling Mom to Four Children Who Values the Freedom that Homeschooling Allows

A homeschool day in the life looks different almost every day, right? Over on our Instagram page, we love to give you a peek into lots of homeschool days regardless of how they change day to day.
Today, we’re going to give you a peek into the homeschool day in the life of Sasha, homeschooling mom to four children, who values the freedom that homeschooling allows.
We can all learn and be inspired by one another, regardless of our homeschool approach. It’s not about looking good for social media, it’s about the connection going on inside our homeschool walls and sharing with others what works for us.

We might all homeschool a little differently, but we can always look for ideas from each other that inspire, encourage and equip us in our own homeschool days. So each week we create blog posts for you to access later of each of those “days in the life”. We hope you keep coming back for more inspiration. Keep going, mama! These days at home are so worth it!
Meet Sasha

Hi, I’m Sasha. I’m a homeschooling mama to four kids ages 12-5 and married to my high school sweetheart. We just recently moved from an old cottage homestead to a newer home with a bit more room and more land. It’s going to be a journey to start our homestead again here in south Louisiana, and we are excited!
We’ve been homeschooling for six years now and we love the freedom it offers and the time it gives us back with our children, as well as the ability to weave our faith throughout our studies. I’m the director of a local Catholic Schoolhouse chapter with nearly 115 kids that meets once per week. It’s such a joy!
Early Morning

In our home we savor a slow morning. This usually means I let the kids wake up on their own and most mornings I’m able to have quiet time to read my Bible and readings for the day. I usually make the kids a warm breakfast and then we gather around the table together to begin our day near 8:30-9:00am.
Breakfast + Books

Our breakfast time encompasses quite a bit of our schoolwork. While we eat we listen to memory work, pray together and then I begin reading to the kids. Many of our catechism readings and history readings take place during breakfast, as well as a fun picture book. Often times we then will take care of notebooking after our readings.
Mid-Morning

After breakfast the kids go off to begin their morning chores, get dressed and begin their independent work. This usually means we tackle our spelling, math and ELA assignments. Sometimes these are done one by one, and some days there’s many kids gathered at the table and I split my time with them.

Our curriculum is very eclectic and we use a variety of things. We let our co-op build the spine of our studies and then each child uses the math and ELA that best fits them. For extra subjects like history and science, we do notebooking.
Lunch

Usually around lunch, the kids are done with their core subjects and we can play outside and then eat lunch. Often during lunch I’m doing another read aloud or we watch science videos. We keep lunch simple and rotate similar meals each week. I love a good snack board.
Extracurriculars

The kids are all involved in various things. The girls (and myself) take/teach dance classes and our boys play baseball. Since we homeschool and have such slow days, I don’t often mind the weekend ball games or nightly practices. I love the fruits of positive teamwork and working towards a goal.
Homeschooling has been such a blessing for our family. We have found a village of families that we adore homeschooling with and we have so much freedom to be in the sunshine, in the dirt, on the ball field or on a road trip. I’m thankful to get this time back with them and to have the time to disciple and steward them in their faith and journey to Heaven.
