Homeschooling Day in the Life: Kinsey, Homeschooling Mom of Two Children, and Previous Inner City Public School Teacher

A homeschool day in the life looks different almost every day, right? Over on our Instagram page, we love to give you a peek into lots of homeschool days regardless of how they change day to day.
Today, we’re going to give you a peek into the homeschool day in the life of Kinsey, homeschooling mom of two children, and previous inner city public school teacher.
We can all learn and be inspired by one another, regardless of our homeschool approach. It’s not about looking good for social media, it’s about the connection going on inside our homeschool walls and sharing with others what works for us.

We might all homeschool a little differently, but we can always look for ideas from each other that inspire, encourage and equip us in our own homeschool days. So each week we create blog posts for you to access later of each of those โdays in the lifeโ. We hope you keep coming back for more inspiration. Keep going, mama! These days at home are so worth it!
Meet Kinsey

Kinsey @playinghomeschool taught in the inner-city public school before tutoring in homeschooling families and teaching reading in foster group homes. After hosting a micro-kindergarten in her home on the tail end of Covid, she is now entering her fifth year of homeschooling her own children. She lives in Missouri with her husband of 15 years and their two children.
A Slow Wake Up

We wake up slow around here. The kids usually come crawl in my bed in the morning, and honestly, it’s one of the sweetest parts of my day. Then my kids play while I do a short exercise to get myself going, and then make breakfast.
Morning Rhythm

We eat breakfast together and I read to them from the Lithos children’s Bible. We also always have something seasonal in our morning rhythm. Right now, we’re jumping into The Splendor of Spring.
Least Favorites First

After breakfast, my 9-year-old “eats the frog,” meaning she knocks out her least favorite things first–piano practice and math.
Independent Work

My 9-year-old does Creative Writing, Grammar, and Spelling. I read books and play games with my 5-year-old while my daughter works independently.

We also love doing art together.
Science

We head out the door to go to a friend’s house for science. The kids play outside, eat lunch together, and my mom-friend and I team-teach science together. We have children from ages 5-10, and are using Weather and Water from The Good and the Beautiful.
Rest Time

We come home for a two hour “rest time.” Mama rests and works, the kids read and play.
