Homeschooling Day in the Life: Megan, former public educator and homeschooling mom to six children

Day in the life Megan

A homeschool day in the life looks different almost every day, right? Over on our Instagram page, we love to give you a peek into lots of homeschool days regardless of how they change day to day.

Today, we’re going to give you a peek into the homeschool day in the life of Megan, former public educator, and homeschooling mom to six children!

We can all learn and be inspired by one another, regardless of our homeschool approach. It’s not about looking good for social media, it’s about the connection going on inside our homeschool walls and sharing with others what works for us.We might all homeschool a little differently, but we can always look for ideas from each other that inspire, encourage and equip us in our own homeschool days. So each week we create blog posts for you to access later of each of those “days in the life”. We hope you keep coming back for more inspiration. Keep going, mama! These days at home are so worth it!

Meet Megan

Megan @pennies_and_salt_megan is a Christian mom to 6 and former public educator. Ten years ago she followed the conviction to leave the classroom and homeschool her children. She began as a Charlotte Mason homeschooler but adapted to a more eclectic style to meet the needs of all of her children.

Homeschooling and homemaking are areas she is passionate about. Her hope is to encourage others in those endeavors through YouTube.

Good Morning!

Good Morning Megan

Good morning mamas!

I am so excited to be sharing with you all today! I’m Megan, a homeschool mama to 6. My babies are 13 all the way down to 4. Our homeschool comes with many different dynamics, including some learning differences among my children. I’m so grateful that I get to homeschool my children to cater to their individual needs.

The Lord has grown a passion in me for homemaking and homeschooling. You can also find me on YouTube and Instagram @pennies_and_salt_megan.

Morning Time

Morning Time Megan

This is by far my favorite part of our homeschool! It is a time that we all gather and study scripture, sing, read a picture book, and do our read aloud. We also do poetry, music, and art on a rotating schedule.

What we use:

  • Brighter Day Press’ Morning Time 2
  • Wonderfull: Ancient Psalms Ever New
  • New City Catechism
  • Current read aloud: Huguenot Garden
  • Current picture book: Carnival of the Animals

Family Subjects

Family Subjects

Family subjects are another favorite part of our homeschool! These subjects include; our morning time (Bible), History, and Science.

We take a literature based approach to history and use a classical history cycle. Biblioplan has been a WONDERFUL option for us! It can be done with all ages and the family guide includes reading suggestions for all ages as well as many other resource suggestions.

My older boys are doing Forensic Science at our co-op this year so they are still able to join us for science here at home. We are using Berean Builders Science in the Industrial Age. I love how it coincides with our history! It has been so fun!

Exploration

Exploration

Being outdoors has always been a part of my own life and some of the fondest memories of my own childhood. There was no question that this would also become a part of my own children’s as well.

Allowing the room to discover and explore is a wonderful way to grow a natural understanding of the world around our children, but it also creates amazing opportunities for discipleship and connections to faith.

Thank you Megan for sharing your Day in the Life with us!
