A Day in the Life of Homeschool Mama Lyndsey

A Day in the Life of Lyndsey, Homeschool Mama of Three

I’m Lyndsey, a mama of three, ages 9 months to 6 years. After attending Bible college with a major in Christian education, I served at a church as a Children’s Ministry Director and then had a career for a few years as a private homeschool teacher for two children with special needs. In both positions I discovered my passion for creative storytelling, living literature, hands-on learning, nature exploration, and most of all, giving children the opportunity to love and take ownership of their education. As a private teacher, we did a lot of our schooling outdoors. You could find us in the woods, on a kayak, on a picnic blanket, at playgrounds, and in their treehouse!

I loved that job so much and always dreamed of schooling my own children at home one day and now the time has come! My two oldest were born with hearing impairment and wear hearing aids. I am thankful that home education gives them access to the best listening environment and offers them education at a pace that is tailored to them.

If you can’t find me reading to the kids, rocking the baby, or cooking dinner, you might look for me at my favorite local French bakery sipping a cafe au lait and homeschool planning, hiking, or hiding in my room eating dark chocolate and video chatting my besties. I also love to sew, bake, go thrifting, and craft anything and everything.
Treehouse Schoolhouse was birthed in the beginning stages of our homeschool journey in order to build community with others who are on a similar path and share inspiration and resources.

Good Morning!

I am so honored to have the opportunity to share our day with you today. My day starts with time alone and coffee! I sit right here in this chair before the kids wake up and savor every sip as I work my way through my current stack of books and spend some time in prayer. I often also journal and write my to do list for the day. Here’s my current stack:

– Hinds’ Feet on High Places
– Devotions for Sacred Parenting
– Seasons of a Mother’s Heart
– The Bible

I’m obviously a morning person, but not without my coffee first. Are you?

Nature Meetup

After some chores and morning time, we joined our friends at a nearby creek for a nature meet up! The kids waded in the creek, found toads (swipe to see), and made mud castles.

Now we have a new pet toad that I have to figure out how to keep alive atleast until Daddy gets home because it’s “Hoppity Hop’s birthday and we have to celebrate!”.

Tablework Activities

The kids had lunch and baths and I got the baby down for his afternoon nap. Now we’re sitting down for some school activities. My son (6) is doing some handwriting, math, looking up facts about toads because of our pet finding. Meanwhile my daughter is coloring and crafting. Next I’ll read aloud from our current chapter book, The Adventures of Reddy Fox.

Running Errands

Feeding the baby, talking to the dentist about treatment plans, consoling fears, and trying to get a few paragraphs read in between. This is our afternoon at the pediatric dentist. I truly do not like going to the dentist and taking the kids is almost as bad, but you gotta do what you gotta do.

Evening Walk

My favorite after-dinner activity is an evening walk. Sometimes the entire family joins, and other times- my mama friend from down the street. Tonight I’m “alone”. Well it’s me, baby Huck, and Susan Schaeffer Macaulay in my ears. I’m working my way through the audiobook “For the Children’s Sake” for the second time and loving it again! Have you read it?

Thank you for making me feel like the normal happenings of a stay-at-home-mom are cool and meaningful. I’ve very much enjoyed sharing our day today and I hope it’s been helpful to you! Feel free to follow our homeschooling journey over at @treehouse_schoolhouse and send me any messages or questions you have had about our day!

Thank you so much to Lyndsey for sharing your family’s day with us!
