Our Favorite Election Resources for your Homeschool Plus Election Night Printables!

With the United States election sneaking closer and closer, I wanted to put together a big list of my favorite resources you can grab to have a great unit study in your homeschool right in time for the big day! The following is a list of unit study options if you wanted to do a full-on study as well as a bunch of books, games, and puzzles if you wanted to add in a little election fun but you still need to stay on track with your regular curriculum. I have brand new election day printables you can grab for your kiddos and pop some popcorn and fill out on election night! I also have a number of other blog posts on what we’ve used in the past to study US government in our high school, middle school, as well as President resources too. Keep reading for all the resources you’ll need for a great study of election day.

Unit Study Options for Election

We love a good unit study for elections or any time really! Here are a few really different and really great election homeschool resources.

  • Homeschool in the Woods Election Unit Study: This option is going to be probably the most time consuming but also have a lot to show for it! You’ll be provided with a text to read each day and lapbook pieces to create the most beautiful lapbooks! We’ve gone through this study several times and we’ve learned so much! Love this one! I would recommend this one for grade 4 all the way up to high school.
  • U.S. Government and Election Unit Study from Silo and Sage: This study is more open-ended. So if you like more flexibility, you will love this one. Loads of printables, book lists, and maps for you. Geared towards elementary and middle school.
  • U.S. Government Study from The Waldock Way: Great unit study with activities, book lists, game ideas, timeline and more. The kids can set up a mock election with voter registration cards and everything! So fun! Great for elementary and middle school.

Books to Read about Presidents and Elections

There are a TON of books out there on the lives of Presidents and American elections. Here are a few that we’ve found really helpful and/or just really great classic books to have on our shelves. Find more book lists in the blog posts linked below as well!

Fun Resources to use for Studying the Election

It’s always fun to add in a little something when you’re studying U.S. elections. Here are some puzzles, games, and more to add into your study…

Election Day Map Printables

Grab your Election Day printables here! We created an electoral map that you can color in with red or blue as the results come in. For something a little extra, we added a list of Senator races across the country as well. You can circle the winner as results come in and keep a tally for the race to take the Senate or keep the Senate. I’ve been using printables like these for my kids for many election seasons, but in 2020 I started making them available for you! I hope you enjoy!
