Homeschooling Day in the Life: Alicia, Veteran Homeschool Mom and Founder of Learning Well Community

Day in life Alicia

A homeschool day in the life looks different almost every day, right? Over on our Instagram page, we love to give you a peek into lots of homeschool days regardless of how they change day to day.

Today, we’re going to give you a peek into the homeschool day in the life of Alicia, veteran homeschool mom and founder of Learning Well Community.

We can all learn and be inspired by one another, regardless of our homeschool approach. It’s not about looking good for social media, it’s about the connection going on inside our homeschool walls and sharing with others what works for us.

We might all homeschool a little differently, but we can always look for ideas from each other that inspire, encourage and equip us in our own homeschool days. So each week we create blog posts for you to access later of each of those “days in the life”. We hope you keep coming back for more inspiration. Keep going, mama! These days at home are so worth it!

Meet Alicia

I’m Alicia. @overatalicias 👋 I’m the founder of Learning Well Community and Learning Well Journal. This is our 17th year of homeschooling. I have four kids…two have graduated, but I’m still in the thick of it with my girlies—11th and 6th grade.

In our homeschool, we love history, really good books, and learning the Charlotte Mason way.

I’m so grateful you’re here and I hope you enjoy following along on our day tomorrow. ♥️

A Quiet Morning Routine

Even though my kids are older now, I still need those precious moments alone in the morning before we start the day. What my morning looks like this spring ⬆️. It doesn’t always go as planned, but this gentle rhythm really helps me start the day in a peaceful way.

Morning Meeting

Our homeschool day always begins around the table. We call it Morning Meeting, but really—it’s our anchor. What we do in our Morning Meeting:

  • Read Scripture
  • Recite memory work
  • Talk about current events
  • Read Shakespeare
  • Read an exerpt on music history
  • and a chapter from our current read aloud

It’s simple but sacred.

Individual Lessons

After our Morning Meeting, the girls move into their individual lessons. I rotate between kids, help where needed, and let my 11th grader work more independently. This part of the day isn’t always picture-perfect, but it’s where so much growth happens—for all of us.

Afternoons

We are usually done with school by early afternoon. On certain days we go to the gym right after school is done. But overall, our afternoons are slower by design. We tidy up, the house quiets down, and we each find our own rhythm—reading, resting, finishing chores. I use this time to reset our home, work on Learning Well tasks, and prep dinner.

Simple + Peaceful Evening Routine

Evenings are for unwinding. Dinner together, a quick tidy, and then slower moments—maybe a walk, a book, or just sitting in the quiet. I’ve been working reall hard lately to not fill every hour. Rest is required too.
