Homeschool Day in the Life: Alice, English Born and Raised, Living in Kuwait, Homeschooling Mom to Four

Day in the Life Alice

A homeschool day in the life looks different almost every day, right? Over on our Instagram page, we love to give you a peek into lots of homeschool days regardless of how they change day to day.

Today, we’re going to give you a peek into the homeschool day in the life of Alice, English born and raised, living in Kuwait, homeschooling mom to four.

We can all learn and be inspired by one another, regardless of our homeschool approach. It’s not about looking good for social media, it’s about the connection going on inside our homeschool walls and sharing with others what works for us.

We might all homeschool a little differently, but we can always look for ideas from each other that inspire, encourage and equip us in our own homeschool days. So each week we create blog posts for you to access later of each of those “days in the life”. We hope you keep coming back for more inspiration. Keep going, mama! These days at home are so worth it!

Meet Alice

Meet Alice

Alice @aliceelizabethcasey is a homeschooling mom of four, in her third year of homeschooling. She is English born and raised, a North Carolina resident, currently residing in Kuwait as she supports her husband in his job there!

She’s a night owl that loves tea (because she’s English of course!). Her favorite part of homeschooling is getting to see and be a part of those moments when things really start to click for her kids. She also loves the flexibility that homeschooling allows for them to travel but also maintain stability in the kids’ education.

Alice is 8 hours ahead of the east coast so the timing might be a little different than our usual takeovers, but you won’t want to miss this unique one!

A Typical Day

A typical day at The Wombat School:

At the beginning of this school year, we sat down with the children to discuss our ‘ideal’ schedule, and get their opinions on it. It was really interesting!

Both of them shared that they preferred to do one of either Language Arts OR Math, rather than doing both each day. So we tried it out, and it has been working so well for us!! We have Math Mondays & Wednesdays when we do as much math as the kids want to. And Sundays (which is the first day of the week here in Kuwait), & Thursdays (the last day of the week) are Language Arts!

They do have some reading goals each day, but I honestly wasn’t expecting this method to work as well as it is for us! We’re cruising through our Good & Beautiful Books! With our children’s ages, 8 & 6 (the littles are 4 & 2), our main focuses are on Theology, Language Arts, Math & relationship building.

We incorporate other subjects right now through life experiences & field trips:

  • For Science, we visit museums, study about animals & bake.
  • For History, we tour historic homes & sites whenever we’re in England with my family (check out some of my reels from our summer in England over at my page @aliceelizabethcasey).
  • For Business, we’re helping our oldest write a few children’s books that she wants to publish to earn some money!

A Brief History of Our Homeschool

A brief history of our homeschool adventures so far at The Wombat School!

  • 2022: Pinehurst NC, USA–Our 4th child arrived, and I knew I would NEVER get my oldest to school on time 🤣, so, after many years of knowing it was in our future, we jumped into ‘homeschooling’… I say that lightly, because it was a slow, irregular season of getting used to a new baby, dealing with my worst postpartum & a stressful year with hub’s career.
  • 2023: Lynchburg VA, USA–We joined our first homeschool community, @starhomeschoolcommunity, and spent a wonderful year making great friends & going on fantastic field trips. While I truly loved it, I didn’t feel like it was the best fit for us long term with regard to educational goals & structure for our family.
  • 2024: Kuwait City, Kuwait–With the huge bonus of a nanny to help with my little two, we are in a fantastic rhythm of schooling, and balancing bookwork with life-skills, seeking new adventures & lots of wonderful extra-curricular activities.

Our goals for 2025:

  • Incorporate more History into each week
  • Music lessons
  • Travel to at least one new country
