A Day in the Life of Homeschool Mama Betsy
A Day in the Life of Betsy, Homeschool Mama of Five

Betsy Jenkins is the mother of five awesome boys. She is an artist and co-owner of a decorative design company, though you may know her best for her classical art memes on Instagram, where she posts as @homeschoolingwiththeclassics. Betsy is married to a renaissance man who can build and fix just about anything. Together, they are just crazy enough to think that raising and educating a million boys at home is a really sweet deal.
Good morning!

Our day starts at 6:30 am, when I shove my bleary-eyed husband out of bed and we run around the neighborhood alternating between cheering each other on and bickering about pace and route.
Upon returning home, sweet little faces were pressed against the window panes while we stretched and cooled down. We were greeted as though we had just returned from a polar expedition. Time for coffee.
But first, I forced Justin to take a picture of our feet. Being an Instagram husband is his cross to bear.

We normally start the day with morning tea time, but today we have our Wild+Free nature group coming over for a picnic to kick off the Summer season. Instead we did devotions, copy work and a little reading.
Then we flew around the house in a panic, while I screamed, “Hide all our possessions in the closets! Bleach the bathroom! Put away any food that’s not organic!! They can’t know we live here!!”
After accidentally putting the 4-year-old in a kitchen cupboard (he’s rather unsightly), I decided that maybe an aneurism wasn’t worth the false impression of perfection and chose to sit down and eat breakfast..at 11:00.

Our Wild+Free picnic is in full swing! Now nobody fall out of the tree or into the lake, mmkthanks.

We had such a fun time at our group picnic. There were paddle boat rides, kids fishing all along the shore and epic tree climbing.
Best of all, nobody was injured and everyone got along. With about 50 adults and kids, that is an amazing feat!

We’re so excited to continue our 3x monthly nature outings with our group this summer! We have a hike to waterfalls and a swimming hole on the schedule for next week and today we talked about a group camp out.
Community is so very important.

If you aren’t connected with other homeschoolers, get out there and find your tribe!

The boys and I picked mulberries from our tree to make muffins for dinner.
Let’s be honest. The boys picked about one berry each then ran off to play while I picked the rest.

But that’s fine. Imma eat all the muffins myself and make them watch.

With the small boys settled into bed, I’m taking a minute to watch the swifts dive for insects on the lake and listen to a Carolina wren and a white-throated sparrow try to out-carol each other. I’ve got a commissioned painting waiting for me inside. My day’s not over yet, but I’ll bid you good night for now!
Thanks for following along with us today!
Thank you so much to Betsy for sharing your family’s day with us!
