Homeschooling Day in the Life: Kristen, Homeschooling Mom to Five Kids, Learning How to Embrace the Homestead Life

Day in the Life Kristen

A homeschool day in the life looks different almost every day, right? Over on our Instagram page, we love to give you a peek into lots of homeschool days regardless of how they change day to day.

Today, we’re going to give you a peek into the homeschool day in the life of Kristen, homeschooling mom of five kids, learning how to embrace the homestead life!

We can all learn and be inspired by one another, regardless of our homeschool approach. It’s not about looking good for social media, it’s about the connection going on inside our homeschool walls and sharing with others what works for us.

We might all homeschool a little differently, but we can always look for ideas from each other that inspire, encourage and equip us in our own homeschool days. So each week we create blog posts for you to access later of each of those “days in the life”. We hope you keep coming back for more inspiration. Keep going, mama! These days at home are so worth it!

Meet Kristen

Meet Kristen

Kristen @kristennicoleyoung is a follower of Christ, wife of almost 11 years, and a stay-at-home homeschool mom to five.

She’s serious about Christ and pretty unserious about everything else. A couple of years ago, they built a house and moved out of town to 20 acres to embrace the homestead life! It’s been the most hilarious and rewarding learning experience, but they are finally getting the hang of it.

She enjoys watching their family work as a team, and the farm life has proven a great opportunity for that.

Breakfast

Of course there are mornings where breakfast doesn’t look like this, but on the whole, we prioritize a breakfast with protein so our minds and bodies have the energy they need to learn!

Teaching Bible

We value teaching the kids not just the *what* of the Bible, but also the *why*. We love teaching them what the Bible says and WHY it’s true, because they will encounter many other religions and schools of thought. Teaching them to love others, regardless of belief, and respectfully engage in conversations about truth is a big aim for us as a family. Right now, we’re using a video-based Bible curriculum for our 3, 5, 6, and 8 year old!

The Importance of Reading

Reading Kristen

One thing we decided to focus on in the beginning of each child’s schooling journey is reading. We realized that if they knew how to read, they could learn anything! Not only can they read to grow in knowledge and learn to love reading, but it also helps them learn how to work on certain tasks independently. We teach them to read and then equip them with all kinds of resources! Now our two oldest come tell us the facts about all sorts of topics because they learned it in a book 🥹

Preparing for the Day Ahead

Sometimes this doesn’t get done, but I really like to take 5-10 minutes in the evening to write out school specifics (reading pages, independent assignments, etc) on the board so that it’s already done when morning rolls around. This helps me wrap my head around school for the next day, and it gives the kids a way to know what’s expected, too!

Thank you so much to Kristen for sharing your family’s day with us!
