A Day in the Life of Homeschool Mama Jane

A Day in the Life of Jane, Homeschool Mama of Four

Day in the Life of Homeschool Mom Jane at Learning Well Community

Aloha! I’m Jane! Mama to Lorelai (13), Breezy (11), Everett (7) and Zephyr (6 months). We are a mix of Hawaiian, Native (Cherokee & Choctaw), Welsh and African American. We just moved to Knoxville Tennessee from Topsail Island NC. Hurricane Florence relocated us unexpectedly.

We have been homeschooling for 7 years (not including the preschool years!) I never thought I would homeschool but here I am LOVING it! Wouldn’t change this precious time with my babies for anything.
When I’m not homeschooling or reading, I run two businesses from home. I write minimalist homeschool curriculum and am writing several other books as well.

Breakfast + Reading

Get the 6 Secrets to a Simpler Mom Life

While the kiddos are eating breakfast, I’m going back through this book, Cozy Minimalist Home by Myquillyn Smith. It’s such an inspiring read and total eye candy for a beautiful, uncluttered home! I love it as much as Marie Kondo’s book, The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up.

Bible + Devotional Time

Older kiddos read from either a devotional or their Bible with the Bible app. Lorelai likes to use the devotional reading plans (for teens) from The Bible App. Then we usually discuss what they read. It’s a very laidback, Minimalist way to cover our most important subject: our faith.

Art Notebooking

My girls’ Art notebooking pages. Keep it simple!!! These are just plain watercolor notebooks and simple watercolor paints (travel). There’s not a specific way we do this. They either write first or draw first. Sometimes they write an essay, sometimes they draw and do an oral report and sometimes they do copywork. Brie did black jaguars (from a Wild Kratts episode) today Lorelai did something she learned from her science book.

Everett is 7 and doesn’t do this because it’s a bit overwhelming. He has done it a handful of times when he really wants to, but I don’t push it at his age. The girls did this starting at ages 7-ish and 9-ish. We just let it flow simply like the rest of our schooling. No pressure to make perfect art. But they LOVE to see how they have progressed and grown in their art skills!

Balancing Sports + Schoolwork

At the rink today! Breezy has a competition coming up! Since she skates two days per week, we designed her school schedule to accommodate her sport. She does more school work on days that she doesn’t skate and that helps her to not feel overwhelmed with trying to fit it all in. It keeps everyone sane and on track at the same time.  Everett did his homeschool skating class today as well!

Sibling Relationships + Bonds

What is my most favorite thing about homeschooling? Watching the relationships between siblings grow and flourish. They might get on each other’s nerves sometimes, but they really know each other and love each other. It’s honestly the most beautiful thing. These sweet babies of mine are such a blessing. Watching them learn and explore and grow in faith and love. It’s such a treat to be their mama!

Thank you so much to Jane for sharing your family’s day with us!
