Homeschooling Day in the Life: Jamie, Homeschooling Mom to Three Who Thrives on Outdoor Adventure

Day in the life Jamie

A homeschool day in the life looks different almost every day, right? Over on our Instagram page, we love to give you a peek into lots of homeschool days regardless of how they change day to day.

Today, we’re going to give you a peek into the homeschool day in the life of Jamie, homeschooling mom to three boys, whose family thrives on outdoor adventure.

We can all learn and be inspired by one another, regardless of our homeschool approach. It’s not about looking good for social media, it’s about the connection going on inside our homeschool walls and sharing with others what works for us.We might all homeschool a little differently, but we can always look for ideas from each other that inspire, encourage and equip us in our own homeschool days. So each week we create blog posts for you to access later of each of those “days in the life”. We hope you keep coming back for more inspiration. Keep going, mama! These days at home are so worth it!

Meet Jamie

Jamie @simply_livingit is a first generation homeschool mama to three boys ages 15, 13 and 10. She and her husband Luke have been married for 16 years and their family thrives on adventure in the outdoors!

Jamie is a stay at home mom that has been homeschooling for the last 13 years, and is a self-described minimalist, not only in homeschooling, but in all of life. She believes that life is so much more than books and curriculum and so nature plays a big part in her homeschooling style.

Get the 6 Secrets to a Simpler Mom Life

Jamie passionately believes and has witnessed how God will equip those He has called to be homeschoolers, as she never imagined herself as a homeschool mom but now couldn’t imagine anything else filling her days.

She is eclectic in her approach, using curriculum from many places and resources, books, and nature to give her boys a well-rounded, Biblical view on life.

Good Morning!

Good morning Jamie

Hey friends! My name is Jamie @simply_livingit . I am so excited to get to spend the day with you all here in the living well community. I have been a homeschool mama for 13 years now and have shared our story over on youtube for the past five. Thank you for allowing me to share in this space. If you’d like to learn more about us, find us over at Simply Living It on youtube!

Leaning Into the Homeschool Life

Leaning into homeschool life

This is homeschool. Life, lessons, and learning. Troubleshooting and trying again. Over and over and over again.

I am truly overflowing with gratitude as I type this out, that we get to homeschool. Our God is such a good God. He is so kind to us and this gift he has given me (us) to homeschool is one I hope I never take for granted. Every day looks different. But, isn’t that life? That’s the whole point! It is what we do, day in and day out as homeschool moms, homemakers, and as mothers, being faithful through it ALL.

That is the most important. Don’t get it all confused and backward. You are equipped by the One who called you to this in the first place. Learning doesn’t just happen at a desk, on a computer, through a textbook, or in a math lesson. It is everywhere, every single day, so lean in!

5th Grade Curriculum

Curriculum Jamie
  • Explode the Code & Beyond the Code
  • IEW Structure & Style
  • Fit It Grammar
  • Teaching Textbooks Math 5
  • Times Tales as needed
  • Night Zookeeper as needed/wanted
  • 24 weeks of Co-Op courses, which vary each semester (typically history, art and science)
  • And of course…LIFE! Hunting, camping, fishing, hiking, backpacking, sports, youth group, taking care of farm animals, processing their own meat, etc. I’m sure I’m missing some.

Do we do all of this every single day? No! Again, day in and day out. One day at a time, over and over! Homeschooling is ALL things! This may not be your way, but it is ours!

The Common End Goal of Homeschooling

Goal of homeschooling

To the homeschool mamas that don’t fit in a box and maybe, to those that do. The mamas that don’t have a perfectly organized homeschool room and to those that thrive on color coordinating books and all the things. To the mamas that love to go their own way, at their own pace, and to the mamas that love to have a well planned day, full of structure and routine. You see sweet friend, there is a place for you here! For me, too! You belong and I belong!

What separates us isn’t what matters, but rather what brings us together! Our common end goal–to homeschool, and to raise up our babies faithfully! This world is so big and so beautiful, and this homeschool community portrays just that!

Our living room (pictured above) is full of life, learning, laughter, love, and gathering. Both in the good days and the bad, this living room holds so, so much for our family. I am getting emotional thinking on all the things. Our home was listed on the market, today.

I don’t know what tomorrow holds. But I do know and am so sure of the One who does. The One who holds it all together. The same One whole holds us all, and our homeschools.

Be encouraged, mamas! You are not doing this alone! We may do things differently, and that is so beautiful to me! This community is such a gift. But remember, it’s your home and you get to homeschool your way. Find the freedom in that and lean in!

Thank you for allowing me to share my day with you. I pray it was of encouragement. You can follow along for more over at Simply Living It on youtube or @simply_livingit here on IG.
