FRIDAY FAVORITES

We’ve made it to Friday and with the extra holiday in there it’s flown by extra fast.  We rang in September, making it now completely acceptable to fly our pumpkin flags.  I’m ironing mine and getting it ready to go.  School is starting on Monday–a fall time favorite and the mums are on sale this week but there are so many more favorites from this week where these came from.

First pumpkin spice candle of fall.  Bath & Body’s are my favorite–hands down.  They smell up the whole house and create a fall haven, even though it’s still hot out.

Evening shadows.  This means the dinner is cleaned up and we’re heading out for a walk–or a run, depending on the night.  It’s a calm part of the day and I love it.

Bottle love affair. She’s connected with this thing.  She and the bottle are one.  I am fine with this, as it is the one and only thing that will get her to stop climbing and be still for 12 seconds.  We do about three tablespoons of juice and the rest water and she things she’s arrived.  I am in not hurry to break this habit.  I am also not afraid of braces.

A budding photographer.  Jack took my camera for part of the day at the Biltmore on Monday.  He snapped so many great photos.  He somehow gets the Rule of Thirds and has a great eye for depth.  I see a great hobby coming on–maybe more than a hobby.

Hillbilly Baby Fences.  I need a fence for this girl.  Not a play pen, but a fence–a big one.  I tried to make my own.  She broke out.  Quickly.

The first leaves of fall.  There is something about the tilt in Earth’s axis that gives me so much motivation–for goals, for projects, for living life the way I ought to be.  These changing of seasons fills me up.  Fall inspires me.  But then, so does summer…and spring…and winter.  For now, I’m filling up my fall cup with apple cider, ready to sharpen pencils and teach my kids–one of my favorite things to do.  Cheers (with cider) for the first leaves of fall.

I read this quote this week:

“Be in love with your life, every detail of it.”
– Jack Kerouac

How true this is, and how short life is to not do this.  If you can’t learn to love the details, create new ones.  Find your pumpkin candle.

Have an amazing weekend.  May it be filled with apple pies and football games.

  1. i'm left with the "apple pies and football games" in the end. we have an orchard of apples which i cannot keep up with so my husband had a genius idea to just make the pie filling and freeze it! so easy! and speaking of football–the Seattle Seahawks had a smashing WIN last night! 😉 We start school Monday too; i'm not entirely ready either…..

  2. Happy Fall,Y'all! So excited for this time of year, too. Enjoy every minute. We'll celebrate our ten year anniversary this month, so this year, fall is extra special to us!

friday favorites.

How is it Friday again?  It’s been a slow/hangover week. We’re still in vacation mode. It’s so hard to do school when the holidays hit, but with another student being added in April we’d better buckle down and get some school done…who knows how much we’ll be able to do after April.

So….favorites:

I started feeling those first flutters this week. It’s so weird. I barely remember anything from my other pregancies and it all seems new. I’m starting to remember how cool this really is.

I showed Sophie how a Moby Wrap worked (love those things) and she was so intrigued. She was trying to tie her baby on to her so I made her a mini Moby with a sweater of mine. She walked around forever. It’s so crazy to think of her as a BIG sister…she’s always been the baby. But I think she’s gonna be just fine.

I was at the P.O. twice this week shipping out goodies from my shop. It’s so much fun. I am sewing up a couple more Christmas planners this weekend and I’ll be listing those soon. Don’t forget there’s a couple of coupon codes out there so you can get 20% off! Yeah, you!! Click here or here for those codes.

Sister is reading. Reading!! I can’t hardly believe it and yes,  I teared up. I can’t handle this growing thing. It’s amazing watching these kids learn. She is so proud. I picked her up a new workbook at Target today because she’s so into it and wants more to do! Love a willing learner.

Tuesday was the boys’ Boy Scout awards night for this semester. They are new to scouting this year and they both earned their Bobcat badge. Jack’s little badge slip said “Jack Nicholson.” We had just watched “A Few Good Men” so of course the first thing I think of is Jack Nicholson’s famous line…..”You can’t HANDLE the truth.” And then of course Jarrod has to actually say it out loud. Something struck me and I snort-laughed to myself mid-awards ceremony. Dang. So inappropriate.

We’re going to go get our tree this weekend. The thought is kind of making me tired. I can DO this! I can!

OH! And don’t forget about the coupon code for Amy’s shop. She just added some SUPER cute vintage Christmas things! Go see!! Use the code LUCKY13 for 20% off.
