SIMPLE SMOOTHIES

My kids love smoothies in the morning, but I can’t stand dragging out all the fruit, and all the peeling and dicing that needs to be done to make them.  But I love them too.  The struggle was real at our house.  I came up with a way (that’s probably been done a thousand times before, but oh well, just humor me and read this) to make a whole bunch of smoothies and get them ready for your crew ahead of time.  I give you: SIMPLE SMOOTHIES.

The idea of simple smoothies is to have all your ingredients for an array of flavors of smoothies frozen in your freezer ready to grab, add some almond or coconut milk, and blend.  I worked for about an hour one day and prepared about 30 smoothie baggies to freeze.

First gather all your supplies for several kinds of smoothies.  I made a Blue Pineapple, Nut Berry, Peanut Butter Banana, Strawberry Banana, and a Berry Smoothie. (recipes below)  Basically I just cleaned and chopped everything on one afternoon and rationed it out.  You will also need a bunch of small Ziploc baggies and a Sharpie to mark what’s in them.

Since most of my smoothies included Greek yogurt and I really wanted to have everything in those baggies, I made some yogurt cubes first.

When these were frozen, I took my fruits, yogurt cubes, and other ingredients and put them into their correct baggies to form their smoothie recipe.  When I was done I had a whole box of smoothies ready to freeze.  Now in the morning when we have our smoothie day for breakfast, I have the kids choose the kind they want and I put the contents of the Baggie into the blender, add a little milk and protein powder and blend.  It’s so easy and my kids looooove smoothie day!

Here’s some of our smoothie recipes:

    • Blueberries
    • Pineapple
    • Greek yogurt

Streamlining your morning can create such a calm start to your day.  That’s why I love ideas like breakfast being ready before I even get up! I need to make another batch of these smoothies…probably this weekend.  🙂
Happy Saturday!

  1. Love this idea..I do have a question. What kind of protein powder do you use? I have looked at buying some and wasn't sure what kind to get.
    Thanks for the great idea!

  2. Breakfast is one thing that definitely needs to be simplified around here – too many times it causes us to get started late because we spend too much time trying to decide!
