feels like home...finally

Our new house is pretty much identical to our other townhouse. The layout is exact, the rooms all the same. BUT...no. more. white. carpet!!!!
It took me being here at the new place for several days to realize how much I had felt like I was in a hotel. A hotel doesn't feel like home.

When we moved 1500 miles to our newly leased townhouse I didn't care one iota about decorating it. I just wanted it to be unpacked and functioning. I knew we'd be moving again and didn't want to mess with all that jazz.

*****Dining Room/Entry******

There's only one problem with that scenario: I'm a nester. I need a nest. I like to put stuff out and decorate. I love "home."

A few weeks after we moved to NC, a friend from high school {Jenny} messaged me. She told me to keep my chin up and that she'd moved a lot since high school...all the way to NYC actually, and that she had a few tips about moving...one biggie being to put stuff OUT! Make it feeeeel like home.

I can honestly say I knew she was right but I was too tired and too uninspired to do that.

But on the brink of moving for the second time in just a few months, her words came back to me. The decorater wannabe inside me snapped. I warned Jarrod that it's been a long time of no-nesting and I might just go a little hog-wild in more than one way...it was my fair warning to guard his wallet ;)
(just for the record, I'm not a big spender...mmmk?)

Having my Becky here to help me definately helped. I feel like the hotel-townhouse may have caused me to lose my mojo a bit. But she helped and that spark returned...and fluffy-mcflufferton, did we fluff!!

I have things on the walls. I have settings and vignettes. I have my old familiar things out. I have new favorites too ;) (I went to HomeGoods for the first time this last weekend...ya. GOOOOD times :))

Y'all asked for a lot of house pics. I do not take those requests lightly. I think I uploaded roughly 25-30 pictures for this post...please enjoy the pictures!
Don't you think these lamps were made for me?? I do. So they came home with me.

*****Kitchen Area*****

The thing about having another creative mind helping you set up home, you get a whole new eye for your stuff. Becky helped me see new uses for my things, where I only saw them as the old way that I had been using them. I love that everything feels repurposed and new.

*****Living Room/Office Area*****

My old house in South Dakota was FULL of windows. That's a big change when you move to a townhouse with like three. Total. This new place has TWO extra windows in the living room...a little extra perk to being an end-unit. I LOVE the light! LOVE it!!

When our landlord said it was fine to hang things on the walls, I took those words and RAN with them!! The Venician blinds that belonged to the dentist office were ripped down immediately. Some old curtains I had in the closet came out and created this soft, pretty feel in our living space.

*****My Bedroom*****

I have some other things to do in my bedroom before I do a lot of pics...nothing a trip to IKEA won't fix.
But I have curtains in there now too and it's soft and pretty and full of light...all good things.

We signed a year lease.
I know where I'll be for at least a year...I think anyway.
Can I just say that my house finally finally feels like home.
That is oh, so very good.

Well, it's the people inside it that make the home. Everything else is just stuff. Though, you have some nice stuff that speaks to who you are. Glad you were able to nest and hang stuff. I love those rulers (we have the same ones...love the Women Rulers ruler).

Your home looks so cozy. Like anyone could just walk in and plop down on your couch and stay for awhile and chat! I love the aprons on the hooks and the numbers on the stools.
Enjoy your home... and create lots of memories! :)

YEAH!
I am so happy for you sweet friend!
I am a fluffer, too, and I am SO glad that you decided to bring your stuff out and make that house your comfy, cozy home. Your attitude is amazing!
Of course, home is wherever your family is, but I think as women, we need a space that is ours, and has our mark on it. We were totally designed for that, and you have done an amazing job. :)
So, is home goods going to be your new fave?
It's definitely mine! Love.That.Store.
I just bought that same candle and swooned over that red clock at target yesterday, too!
I was trying to convince my friend to buy it, actually. heehee!
Oh, yeah! And don't even get me started on those lamps! Lovely!
xoxo
Happy Nesting!

Oh Alicia, it is all so pretty! I love all your vintage touches! I'm pretty sure we don't have a Homegoods in my neck of the woods or I would have been there. It feels like a home, a house. So happy you had your friend to help with all the fluffing!

Oh I so badly wish I lived closer and could just come cuddle on your couch and enjoy your home with you!
Everything looks wonderful!
And I agree...moving means you need to unpack and make it feel like home no matter HOW long you'll be there.
It's been a slower process for me than normal because I've been so hesitant to put things on the walls here.
Once Bud is home that'll change!
The nursery is the first thing on my list!!!

I LOVE IT ALICIA!!! I love that you repurposed things and put it out. I moved like 14 times growing up and we always made it look like home every time. It really helps! You have so many cute things. I just love what you've done with them all!!

It looks great Alicia! I need to get my butt in gear and decorate mine. And then I need to write an RX note to tell myself to not worry yet because I have 6 weeks left of pregnancy. Hahaha! You are an inspiration!
