wise blog reading

Last week (?) I posted a nice little post on how my kids and I were happily making pickles and ice cream in my kitchen, enjoying the day and making creative messes.
As I stood on a chair focusing in on a pretty bowl of freshly scrubbed picklers, I focused in...snapped, took my face away from the camera and seriously laughed out loud.

Why?

Well, here's what YOU saw.....

And here's what I saw....brace yourself....

Ya....I know.

So here's the deal girls, we read these blogs and see every one's pretty homes and pretty things and sometimes it can get a little overwhelming. It can be easy, if our minds aren't guarded, to feel jealous, feel bad about our own stuff, small, insignificant, lame.

My kitchen is not normally this gross (or my kids would be in foster care for gosh sakes) but that day, it struck me...let's not let this awesome blog world of ours get us down, yo.
For the most part we only see pictures, and those pictures are almost always focused in on the pretty stuff.

Just thought you should know that I love blogging and I love sharing my loves, talents, gifts; but I never ever ever ever want to portray myself as Lil Ms. Perfect Pants.
Nobody likes Ms. Perfect Pants...that's not me.
Let's just be honest, we've all got stickers stuck to our butts and mold on our bread at one point or another right?

Comprende?
Comprende.  (roll your tongue when you say it, it just feels better.)

xo,

Oh my! You were speaking to my heart this morning sweet friend. Have I ever mentioned how dear you are to me? Seriously! I'm telling you- I NEEDED THAT! You are delightfully honest and I just think you're swell. Blessings to you sweet friend!

You know I don't mind a carefully cropped photo to show the goodness of life. What I'm not a huge fan of is people posting their immaculate house and writing, "Sorry it's such a mess." That's what hurts me more. I think, "Really? really? You should see my house to get reaquainted with the term." Thanks for having the grace to laugh at your mess and call a spade a spade.

Too funny! :) We often have to do a lot of cropping or shoving everything to one side before we take pictures. However lets focus on the fact that you were making homeade pickles and ice cream.... That makes you Lil Ms. Perfect Pants in my world! (But in a good way!)

So so true! Thanks for the reminder. Sometimes the blogworld can get very overwhelming and I forget that you all live in houses just like me, with dirty dishes in the sink and kids running through the kitchen with dirty feet.

Hahaha!
Guilty of allowing pretty pictures affect my view on my own house and such, but thank you for putting it back into perspective for me!

You rock!

Amen, who could cook or be creative without making a mess, no one! Love the lip gloss, bonita at all times.

Happy living.

Comprende for sure! I about laughed my pants off when I saw that photo of the messy kitchen. I think I was expecting something so much worse (like an animal or a someone naked or something)...then when I saw that I was like "oh, is that my kitchen?" Ha!

Thanks, so much for sharing. I think it does get hard when we read blogs and see "perfection". But perfection is boring, so I'd rather be messy and interesting...ya with me?

Looks like a fun time with the kids, no matter the mess. You must have a garden also.

I can SO relate to everything about this post! I've been thinking the same thing about my blog. I like to stay positive, but I don't want to come off perfecty perfect. On a similar note, I read this (http://www.rantsfrommommyland.com/2009/12/open-letter-to-perfect-mommy.html) over at Rants from Mommyland and found it spot on. It made me laugh so hard I may have tinkled a bit. Just keepin' it real, right?
Have a great weekend!!!

You are Ms. Perfect Pants to me. Not because you are perfect as in perfection, YOU are just perfect the way you are. (Except when you say damn). :)

MMM refreshing. I needed this post! We have had a challenging summer in our house regarding our house (leaky basement and torn up backyard) - I feel like anytime we make some progress in finishing the renos and problems, the carpet beneath our feet is pulled and we're left scrambling again. Reading "perfect" blogs sometimes gets me down.. but it also reminds me to remain patient. These homes are just temporary anyway, right? ;)

Anyway, thanks again! :)

Your post made me smile. I often think that if one of my blogger friends visited me, they would be in for a real shock!! I am definitely not perfect nor is my home a showcase...and I have a dirt backyard to prove it!!!

this says it so perfectly. and i'm pretty positive that most of our wide angle shots would look the exact same. : )

haha! I love this post. I may just find a lovingly cropped photo and copy you to show blog world what the uncropped looks like. :)

and this came at such a great time. this morning, I was running (how's that going for you, by the way? still every day?) and I was telling the Lord, "I am sorry that I always wish you made me just a little differently." I think that sometimes comparison turns into a tricky thing where we don't realize that the Lord made us the way we are, with the life we have, on purpose. I needed this reminder to not play the game, sweet friend, thanks.
