Let's do coffee, k?
I'm stickin' with these babies, because I can't get enough...I've gone through 2 gallons of cold coffee and I've got another 2 gallons steeping in the fridge as we speak.
(to be fair I did NOT drink that all myself...a few others partook in blended goodness too)
So, since you're here I'm going to show you the activities of yesterday...
just the fun parts.
I'll leave out sheet washing a kitchen floor mopping.
My girlie and I did an art project on the patio...
hot, yes!
But here's what I think:
We Midwesterners are a buncha complainers...you should hear these people in my town...
they're all freaking out about hot weather.
Well, I get that it's hot, but 6 months from now we'll all be frozen solid and planning vacations to someplace hot.
I'm not sayin' a word.
Karma, baby...a figure when I'm outside in the sticky wonderland, at least I'm getting a facial :)
How's that for optimism?
Ok. Back to the project.
We mixed corn syrup with food coloring to make our paints.
Then we drew an outline of our drawing with oil pastels.
Then fill in the drawing with your paint.
It's so pretty.
I love how the paint is shiny.
But just for the record, it takes forever to dry.
I think it'll always be pretty sticky...
Sophia's
Mine.
Ok, now I have to show you the little mantle redo I did yesterday...
Here's what it looked like before.
Pretty boring.
and sad :(
and now!!
Now it's happy :)
I had this old door thingy and the idea just hit me on Sunday...
"this could be a little piece of art or something."
So I came up with stamps, a phrase and colorful fabric.
I used some fabric I had to make a little semi-circle banner
and then some more fabric for the mini triangle banner.
I added these photos too because it needed a little more something.
Side note:
I need ideas for displaying some of my photos.
What do y'all do?
Also, I need to organize my photos...they're just all sitting on my hard drive,
Also, I need to organize my photos...they're just all sitting on my hard drive,
so needing to be organized.
Does this make you happy?
Because it makes me smile every time I walk by...
since yesterday.
Thanks so much for coming on over today.
By now I'm so hopped up on caffeine, I'm feeling very productive now :)

I love weathered wood! I like the unique twist you put on it and the cheerful buntings.
From one Midwesterner to another, I'm right with you on the weather. By the end of the year, I'll be huddling over my coffee with two sweaters on wishing for sunshine. :)
your mantle does make me happy, i love that blue-flowered fabric in your little banner...so cute!! i think we actually HAVE corn syrup and food coloring so i think we are gonna try this after we watch Tangled ; ) thanks for the idea, alicia...and thanks for coffee!
Good Morning, Alicia,
I can't believe how fast the summer is going...I actually love hot weather over the cold, too.
I would sure love to meet you this summer...especially since you live just across town! You always have a great project going over there.
Our girls are getting settled in their new places, and then I will be able to focus on mine!
Have a terrific Tuesday ~Natalie
I love your optimism about the heat. I'd rather be hot and sweaty than cold, shivering, and miserable any day. Your little paint project is so cute. I might have to give this a try with my kindergartners :o) and yes, your mantle is very happy looking now! What a clever idea to use that old gate.
I love it!!! Your mantle looks amazing. I so, so wish I had a creative brain...
We're having crazy heat here too, but I feel the same way as you. I never complain about the heat. I figure that allows me to complain all winter about the cold.
Hi Alicia! I thought I was the only one who is addicted to Pioneer Woman's iced coffee! It's so delicious, isn't it?
Your mantle is magazine worthy! I especially love the weathered wood sign that you created. How very clever you are! And, of course, you know that besides iced coffee, my next favorite thing our your flag banners!
i love that little thing! so cute! i have some old wood from the deserted barn that i found that door at. i have been thinking of things to do with it. this is so cute!
displaying pics is always hard for me b/c i don't want a bunch of frames everywhere. 2-3 is good for me. so i started hanging twine from old window panes or little places in my home and hung little bitty clothespins. love.
i couldn't love your mantel more if it was mine. it's to die for! but, i'm such a sucker for old barnwood!! i have a piece like that out in my yard, but after seeing this post, i'd put it on my mantel if i had one!!! (we have a black cast iron wood fire place)
you should sell something like that!! really!
Hey from another Midwesterner! The painting looks like so much fun and I love how Sophia is sampling as she goes along!!
Luh-uv the mantle! So adorable! :)
Let me tell you about heat....highs in the 100's here in the great state of Texas! (I'll take our winters any day though. I'd die a little ball of frozeness with yall's winters...couldn't do it!)
Oh, and I'm addicted to cold coffee as well these days! So tasty!
You cracked me up about the weather because it has been over 100 so many days this summer in Alabama (and people complain alot but what do they think - we live in the south!!) that we've all been talking about how pleasant it's been the past few days at 92 or 93! Haha!!
Love the mantel. Gave me a good idea about some old door/shutters I have. Banners would look so cute with them! Thanks!
Your mantel is awesome! I absolutely love the wood piece!
Oh, I just love the door with the message. I'm loving yellow lately (but just that shade). It's so happy.
I need a better system for pictures too. I like to make scrapbooks and albums, but very rarely do the pictures get on the wall or framed. What's with that? I need to show them off.
LOVE the garlands and the door... SO FUN!!!
And I'm totally with you in searching for a better picture system. Sheesh. :)
I am in LOVE with your mantle! on eof my children's favorite songs says love on another...you need to sell something like this in your etsy shop:) your such a good momma! I love that your darling girl is paiting in a white shirt. haha. my boys would be covered!
Love your sign....so cute! Your mantel looks fantastic - I envy it! We sadly do not have a fireplace...and we live in a 1940's home...what home built in the 40's doesn't have a fireplace?
I've always loved having lots of pictures up around my house and for years did the big gallery wall. I just changed it up this Spring and love the change. Here is a link to my blog post about it. http://acottagefamily.blogspot.com/2011/05/no-guts-no-glory.html
Basically I scored a giant and super cheap frame (the best kind in my opinion) and hot glued all of my photos on the old canvas in the frame. Kind of crazy but at least now all my crazy is contained!
You're right, your mantle is gorgeous!!! I love what you did with it! And the paintings you did with your little girl are awesome. Crafty mama!
I love your project - too cute!! I also agree with you about the heat..it can't get too hot because it'll be cold before we know it!
the mantle is 100% better! absolutely lovely!
That is adorable! I LOVE it.
Oh it's beautiful! I love the little folded circle garland. Pretty colours and the photos look really sweet.
I bet your picture didn't dry . . . because of the weather. (just kidding.)
Fondly,
Glenda
