So because it's like -50 degrees here, I have no choice but to focus on a whole bunch of projects
or else I will absolutely lose my ever-livin' mind.
We're talkin' ridiculously cold here in the great state of South Dakota.
And when it gets like this, my mind goes to project mode.
SO, anyway...I've been wanting to do a little living room spruce up for a while now.
I'm a planner and it's all planned out in my mind, now I just have to DO it.
Here's the plan:
Current state....
Not terrible...I know this. BUT it's been like this forever and we've really never done any "work" to this room. Really, the "problem" is I have so many ideas, I can't very well not do them, right??
We do need more storage in this room since it serves as our living room and office area.
I didn't take a good picture, but that's our desk behind the couch.
Since my hubby is handy and I totally take advantage of that, I've decided he should build a couple big bookshelves on either side of the window...I'm thinking floor to ceiling.
White. Backed with some wainscoting.
I like the couch, but I'm going for a totally clean, light, bright looking room.
I'm thinking lots of soft oatmeals and whites.
I've been inspired by several of you to make my own slipcover for my couch...I hope I don't lose it with this project. I'm an hour project kinda girl...this might be pushing it.

I'm goin' for it!
I bought a huge canvas drop cloth, that's what they told me to use, and now I just need to do it....
biting my fingernails.
I bought a couple of new, comfy, white slipcovered chairs to replace the ones in there now...the current white chair is going to the sunroom, the recliner, my brother inherited :)
I think I'll have to paint the TV cabinet so it doesn't look like a big red thing in this nice creamy white room.
The other thing I need to decide is if I should paint the room another color...
that's where you come in.
I get so nervous picking paint colors. They never look like the swatch.
Or else they change to a really wacky color as the light changes.
I am really in a grey-ish mood right now....
I am totally inspired by this photo:

| Country Living All that creamy grey against crisp white...love that! So here's a few samples...I know it's hard to tell on the computer, but if you could help me... I would love you forever! |
I know it's really hard to see, but I'm liking both colors on the tops of the swatches.
And this one:
Ok, one last look.
Hopefully I'll be done (well, Jarrod I guess) in a few weeks....I'll do the painting.
He'll do the building.
It's a team effort :)

GO TEAM!

Wow, Alicia, you really did have this planned out in your head. What a difference this will make . . . all light and bright . . . like spring coming early.
I finally gave up on paint colors . . . I now buy the sample pot and try it out. After my soft blue bedroom (a few years ago), ended up looking like Crest toothpaste.
Hope you guys have fun in the process.
Fondly,
Glenda
I always buy a small can of the colors I am considering and paint a big patch, at least 2 x 2 on the wall and look at it several different times of the day. The light changes it dramatically. That way I don't have a color that scares me when it is all done. Great plans and the room will be great. Hugs, Marty
i understand your projects galore...that's been me on speed for the last month or two. i'm tired and just want to curl up with a book. but alas our basement is in dire need of a redo too. i'm posting on it tomorrow. love your color. i'm hunting for the perfect shade!
Oh this is so exciting! I just love new projects. I think your right about the shelves, they would look perfect surrounding the windows and will give the room a great "wow" factor!
I'm also excited that your going to try your hand at slipcovering your sofa. It will turn out fabulous, I have no doubt! Besides you will have all of us if your in the need of venting! LOL!
I like the idea of a gray wall color. Picking out colors is always such a difficult thing. I would suggest the lighter of the two shades that you picked out. It seems to fit your "view" of a light and bright room a little more to me. I might even consider going slightly lighter but then I don't know much about grey (you should talk to Lisa at Fern Creek Cottage, she knows her greys!)
Have fun!
Oooh it's a toss up for me between the mochachino and the gray mirage.
I can't wait to see your finished product!

I'm so proud of you for just going for it. It can be a bit frustrating at times...but just take a break...and keep on truckin'...I know you'll do a wonderful job. As for greys...I love the color Maria from Dreamy Whites has on her walls...I also love Horizon my Benjamin Moore...that's a beautiful shade of grey. Good Luck!
I am a little sad you are going gray...or is it grey??? I've always wondered. But back to my sadness...I don't like gray anything. I look horrible in gray. And since I am a somewhat permanent fixture in your home, I think you should consider that. :)
