I'm struggling with a decision.
I'm not a very good decision maker...I think I over-analyze things and then I just can't make a decision.
So...
here's my dilemma.
Well, not really a dilemma, but my question for you anyway :)
Currently, I am sewing, painting, crafting in our downstairs laundry room...downstairs as in, basement.
The space is good...lots of outlets, space, etc.
But a couple months ago, my friend suggested I move my workshop up to the sunroom we have at the top of our staircase.
You can see it at the top in the picture....
Ok, here's my issue with moving...
I'm kind of an OCD, neat freak person. And we all know how craft rooms can look if we don't clean constantly...
scraps, messy, clutter.
And this door has glass-paned doors...hmmmm.
Will this drive me nuts??
My mom says it will...one vote for DON'T DO IT!
But the light...oh, the light is fanTABulous!!
At first my basement workspace and it's lack of light didn't bother me so much, but now that it's winter and I'm spending more and more time there, the lack of light is getting to me.
The picture above is facing west.
This room is only about 8' x 12'. It's small, but I think I could make it work if I wanted to.
Picture and long counter/table over the radiator and storage underneath. (the chair and ladder in the corner are gone, of course)
Facing east...this side could have another table/counter. With more storage underneath...
SO, HELP!!
Move to a smaller room with less storage, but more light?
And could cause panic attacks everytime I go up and down the stairs??
OR
Stay in a larger room with more storage, but stinky lighting?
I can't decide...hmmmmm.
xo,

Oh! That is a hard decision! I would say stay in the basement and add additional lighting to help with the basement blues. However, if you move upstairs and if you REALLY think that seeing the clutter through the glass doors will drive you crazy you could make some sheer curtains to cover the windows and only have the curtains pulled back when the room is clean and tidy?! I wish I had a craft room period. When I craft I have to pull everything out, including a folding table and set up for the time and when I'm done I have to put it all away....someday....I'll have a room to myself!

First, thanks for your sweet comments on my home schooling post. Yes...that teacher WAS (and prob. still is) a meanie.
Second, what a lovely space. Hmmm....to craft or not to craft there. I'd say it depends on how you craft. Like, do you use a lot of spray paint? If yes, then I def. vote basement. If you do lots of lovely little things like jewelry or fabric, then I'd say it could work. What about shelving...with all the windows would there be enough storage space?
Clearly, I'm not much help!
I'm thinking you should go for it. The light issue in itself would have me moving. Plus being able to see the room often will probably work out for the best. You'll be more modivated to keep it cleaned up, plus you want to spend more time in there which will mean you may get more done. You could add a few sheer curtains to the door to let light through, yet hide a little of the mess.
I vote with your mom. Mothers always know best :) Good luck deciding!

I also agree with momma! I have such a hard time leaving a mess - but sometimes you just have too! And then if you have to walk past it 100 times a day it would make you crazy! But oh that would be a beautiful craft space... :) I think I better come tour your house so I can give you a better opinion! ;)
First off, love the arches in the entry of your house. Beautiful! You sound a lot like me. I think your mom has it right, though. I'd forever be thinking about the clutter and we both know a cluttered mind is not productive. Possibly get better lighting in the basement and put a few things in the space that make you happy. I think it's better to have space to work! You could use the sunroom for a retreat to do small projects that could easily be tucked away. Okay, sorry for the novel. Good luck! :D ~Michelle
DO IT!!!! Gorgeous. You could always hide the mess with some shear curtains. I would love a little room like that. I bet you will find all kinds of ways to keep it organized and pretty.
we have our office/craft room on the main level in our house, in a room that is open to the foyer, so everyone can see into it when they enter. it's the formal dining room, but we preferred our living room to be half sitting area, half dining area.
the space would be AMAZING as an office & i still have high hopes that it will be one day. but for right now, i haven't been able to keep it straight enough for others eyes, so we have a shower curtain up to block it from the foyer...
i say be realistic about what you can and can't do! but also create a space in which you can be creative!!!
Your sunroom looks so beautiful, i think you'd miss it if you turned it into a craft room. I would look at the possibility of adding better light into your basement i think xx
GRRR...Just left
a long comment and
the internet went
out!! Okay, so quickly:
Try it out first. Put
up a card table, even,
add a few projects and
try it on. You can then
always move back to the
basement. My crafty area
is our furnace/storage
room in the basement, too.
I do love the fact that it
has a solid door that I
can close, but the lure of
sun....aahhh.....!

Hi Alicia...I followed a link from Jeanne's blog (abushelandapeck)! I, too, am a homeschooling mom with a crafting bent (obsession, more like!!).
Personally, I need a gob of natural light to craft, so obviously I'm on that side! I also think that the gorgeosity (yep, I created that word!!) of your sunroom will inspire you to create and keep it gorgeous!! An organized craft room is a productive craft room.
You could also put sweet sheers up on the french doors!! :)
blessings to you!

GO UPSTAIRS!! The light is absolutely wonderful in that room and I bet it will energize you will you are putting together your wonderful creations. Just put some curtains on the doors or frost the glass. It will be great :)
Hard to decide! The light is fabulous! I would like to say stay in the basement...that way you don't ever have to worry about a mess. If you are going to keep this room all tidy and cute then ok. This is one of those things that would drive me nuts too. I hate messy stuff all over. Good luck!! Like another poster said.... Your Mom may know best...they usually do. :)
Enjoying your blog.
