First Quarter Sum Up

Well, I'm not sure how, but somehow we've completed NINE weeks of school already!!! I can't believe how time flies when you're havin' fun! Here's a peek at what we've been doing the last nine weeks...

JACK: We've been using this book for Jack's phonics and letter-learning. It's been really fun. Each week we study a different letter and make a letter to hang up decorated like something that letter begins. Examples: D's with DOTS, G's made to look like gifts, etc. Then we also make an animal that starts with that letter: Carlos the Cat, Darrin the Duck...you get it :)

NATURE STUDY

For Nature Study, we used this unit study on fruits and nuts. I probably should have started little earlier, but we still found lots of good stuff. I had lots of pictures from nature study, so they're in a slide show below. Now we're on to Conifers for November/December.

BOOKS WE READ

HEALTH SCIENCE:

This quarter, we were studying health science. Each quarter we'll do a different type of science. We covered healthy eating, the food pyramid and the skeletal system.....

Here's Noah's pocketbook he made on the food pyramid...each "pocket" was a different food group and he did different projects on each group.
Here's a skeleton Noah made from kit I found.
And here's a lapbook he made to sum up everything he learned. Next we're moving on to Earth Science, where we'll study different landforms.
AMERICAN HISTORY

First quarter American History consisted of studying 3 main North American Explorers...

Noah did another simple lapbook for his final project....

For November, we're moving on to Native Americans. We're looking at a different North American region of Native American, reading and doing projects about each group each week. At the end of the unit, Noah will choose one region of Native Americans we wants to do some sort of a presentation on at the end of the month.

WHEW! It's been a busy first quarter, but we'll be slowing down a little bit. The plan is to take most of December off, so we'll be ready for a break in a few weeks! Busy, but fun! I tell my boys all the time how I would have loved to do school the way they get to!! :)
